Aavelin - Daylight Saving Time Information

Introduction

Beginning in 2007, Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins operating on a new schedule in the United States market, starting earlier in the year and ending later. This document will guide you through ensuring that your Aavelin is prepared for the transition.

Support Requirements

All Aavelin units require a patch to the Time Zone Definition files to accomodate the new DST schedule.

Update Procedure

An update to the Aavelin unit's Time Zone Definition files can be downloaded and installed manually. This will provide the correct schedule for DST and ensure that the clock changes at the correct time.

Save the above file, and create a CD from it (Write Image to Disc, Create Disc from ISO, or similar option in your CD writing application. DO NOT simply write the file to a blank CD).

If you do not have a CD writing application you are familiar with for this use, you can use a freeware tool called ISO Recorder, available at the following location:

Note: - Roxio software will not handle this ISO file correctly. Use the ISO Recorder application instead. Also, a successfully created disc will appear to be empty if viewed on a Windows PC. This is normal

Once the update CD has been created, insert it into the Aavelin's CD-Rom drive. Using the Aavelin keypad, press 'Menu', navigate to 'Installation', press 'enter', and 'enter' again with 'Update from CD' selected.

The update will happen quietly behind the scenes, and the system will restart when completed.

If no action is taken, the Aavelin's clock will not advance 1 hour on March 11, 2007, and will instead advance 1 hour on April 1st, 2007 (the correct date according to the old schedule).

If the software is not updated and you instead advance the clock 1 hour manually, restart the Aavelin unit afterwards by bringing up the on-screen menu, navigating to System and selecting Restart.

If the Aavelin is running version 2.50 or later and has connectivity to a public NTP server, the clock will require daily readjustment until patched.
