Aavelin - Frequently Asked Questions

Using Aavelin Composer

Composer is stuck in 'Demo' mode - I can't save or publish.
Beginning with version 2.88, Aavelin Composer now incorporates a serial key registration format. If the serial key (located on the reverse side of the CD packaging insert) is entered incorrectly, a limited 'Demo' version of the software will be unlocked. To re-enter the key, click on the 'About' button within Composer, and then 'Enter New Key'. Enter the new key in this field exactly as it appears on the packaging (all caps, include dashes). If you continue to have issues, contact our support department to obtain a new key.

Using the Windows Vista Beta release, I receive an error message launching Composer.
This error message can be ignored, and the performance of the application will not be negatively impacted. A subsequent release of the Aavelin Composer application will provide a long-term solution.

I'm having trouble getting things to align properly using the Credit Roll feature.
At this time (in version 2.88), the Credit Roll object does not support tab stops in the .TXT source file. We instead recommend using a monospace font (described here, also referred to as 'fixed width' or 'fixed pitch') and aligning the characters in the text file using spaces. Monospace fonts available within Windows include Courier, Courier New, Lucida Sans Typewriter, and Lucida Console.

Can I use a PowerPoint presentation in Aavelin Composer?
Indirectly, yes. Open the presentation, click on 'File' and 'Save As'. Select 'JPEG File Interchange Format' in the 'Save as Type' field, and click 'Save'. Each slide in the presentation will be saved as a .JPG file that can be used in Aavelin Composer. Alternatively, the .PPT file can be converted to Macromedia Flash with a 3rd party program, and the resulting .SWF file can be played back from the Aavelin directly. Click here for details.

How do I correctly implement a transparent logo?
A transparent logo is not a logo that is partially see-through, but rather (for example) a round logo that has the edges removed, allowing you too see what is behind. Referencing this example: The green color (RGB 0,255,0) will render transparently when published to the Aavelin system. The result is a rabbit logo that floats on the page. Without transparency, it would be a rabbit logo inside a rectangle, and would not look very polished.
